Family Day!

Team Red and Team Brown attend different schools. This often makes things tricky – and tiring! We do a lot of driving around, and doubles (double conferences, double concerts, double end-of-the-year shows). This year the two schools seemed to have almost completely mismatched calendars. Start dates, end dates, spring breaks, days off .. on and on. Last Friday, Veterans Day, was the third Friday that Team Red was home while Team Brown was scheduled for a full day of studies. … Read more »

Giving Thanks

We have so much to be thankful for, and our annual Thanksgiving Tree seems to agree! I stayed up so late cutting out little leaves the night before, and still the pile quickly dissipated. As the ideas began to flow, and we all scribbled out our gratitude – they begged me to cut more and more leaves! I think we could have stayed there all afternoon.

Once the leaves are all marked, I read them out loud to the family … Read more »

The Princess

We met up with friends and walked our crew around the neighborhood for annual tricks and treats. I’m not a huge fan of Halloween, we generally try to downplay it – but I like watching their excitement and creativity as they prepare their costumes and for one evening take on another persona.

Curie was a princess; her bright sparkly flowing fabric stood out like crazy amidst all her dark-clad, superhero and ninja brothers. It was the perfect outfit for her … Read more »

The Highlight Reel

I poked at my chicken pad kai mao with my fork and looked up at our new friends across the table. They had only just met John for the first time, and were asking questions about our custody agreements. It is so lovely to be making new friends together who only know Papa and I now as we are, together: and don’t know the whole long years of mess behind us.

But I am realizing that when I first begin … Read more »

Us and Them

Sunday my littlest pumpkin turned 6; and he had his first all-class party! It was really a drop-off type event at a gym, so all the parents came and went – except for me, John (my ex-husband), his new wife, and Lizzy (Papa’s ex-wife).

Awkward..?!

Yes.

And no. Surprisingly. Two years ago I could probably not have imagined a couple hours together with this group of people, spent so pleasantly  discussing things like the impending birth of my ex-husbands new … Read more »

Laughing All the Way

On the walk to church yesterday morning, the two smallest were trailing behind, holding hands, and very much enjoying themselves. Eliot yelled, ‘Let’s SKIP all the way to church!’ and they began to skip. Then Curie yelled, ‘No, let’s HOP all the way to church!’ and they began to hop.

Then Eliot pulled them to a sudden halt, eyes twinkling turned to her and said, “NOOOOO .. let’s LAUGH all the way to church!’

And that is exactly what they … Read more »

What’s in a Name

A lot, actually. When each baby was growing in my belly, we thought quite a bit about what they were going to be called and those meanings. And so in the formation of our new family unit, we’ve thought a great deal about names as well.

The kids usually refer to each other all as brothers, but once in a while it’s necessary to differentiate. So we’ve fallen in love with the term bonus (as a substiution for step). … Read more »

Focusing on the Future

A robot is a mechanical intelligent agent which can perform tasks on its own, or with guidance. The term robot can also apply to a virtual agent. In practice it is usually an electro-mechanical machine which is guided by computer and electronic programming.

Robots can be autonomous or semi-autonomous and come in those two basic types: those which are used for research into human-like systems, such as ASIMO and TOPIO, as well as those into more
